Frequently Asked QuestionsGet answers to the most frequently asked questions in this printable document (PDF). AcademicsLaureate International Universities (LIU) offers a wide range of academic areas from computer science and engineering to foreign languages and philosophy. While some universities specialize in specific areas, many offer a broad range of academic programs. Here are just a few of the many programs you can choose from:
By clicking on the following link you will find those courses offered at the various campuses. Language RequirementsOne of the great benefits of studying abroad is cultural immersion, which includes speaking the native language of the country. Since most of the Laureate network is located in Latin America and Europe, you may also need a certain level of language skills to study at the institution you select. Language requirements vary, but many of the programs require a minimum of Spanish or French proficiency (some courses are available in English). Program FeesProgram fees and what they include vary from school to school. Tuition scholarships vary as well, but on average, most students are awarded scholarships that cover 50% of the tuition costs. To see detailed information on tuition and fees, including housing, at participating universities, please download our Program Fees PDF. Financial Aid InformationThe HACU Laureate International Scholarship Program was created in response to one of the most substantial barriers preventing US students from studying abroad: lack of financial resources. The Program is committed to helping to make study abroad as affordable as possible for as many students as possible. While the program provides generous tuition scholarships to participants, many students still need additional financial assistance. Never fear--financial aid can be used to study abroad! We will work closely with you and your institution's financial aid office to make this as smooth a process as possible, but, if at any time you or your parents/guardians are confused, please just give our office a call at (866) 219-3658 or contact us online. For additional details, please see our page on Financial Aid Information. Credit TransferThere are so many benefits to studying abroad: Opening your eyes to a new culture and way of life, making new friends, and traveling to a unique location. But one of the best parts of the program is that you can usually transfer credits to your home institution. In order to do this, the courses you take abroad must meet the same requirements as a similar course offered at your home school. As part of the application process you must receive written approval from your school's study abroad advisor, academic advisor or academic dean for all the courses you want to take abroad. For more details, speak with your study abroad advisor at your school and download our brochure. Academic CalendarAcademic calendars and application deadlines vary for each university, but most are on a similar timetable with schools in the US. Most have spring and fall semesters, but some may have a trimester system. For calendar and deadline information on specific schools, you can refer to our brochure or the Programs in Europe and Programs in Latin America pages on this website. EligibilityYou must be a student attending one of HACU's member institutions in the U.S. or Puerto Rico (go to www.hacu.net to see if your institution is a member) and possess a minimum of a 2.7/4.0 GPA. (exceptions can be made). Each HACU member institution can award up to 17 scholarships (one for each program location) for semester and year study at Laureate International Universities in Spain, France, Switzerland, Cyprus, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru and Honduras. For more information, visit your school's study abroad office and download our brochure. |
